WELCOME TO THE COTTAGE
We Hope your stay
is an enjoyable one. We would like to give you a few tips about the
cottage area
(1.) The private beach, directly towards the lake from the
cottages, is for the use of the tenants of the cottage only.
The wooded lot with the path takes you to the beach, dock and boat
anchors. You will find chairs down there as well.
(2.) Occupancy of the cottage is from Saturday 2 PM to Saturday 10 AM
allowing us time to clean for the next guests. We thank you for leaving
it as you find it .
(3.) We have a screened fire-pit jointly used by our 2 cottages.
(4.) We would appreciate it if you would let us know if you have some
suggestions to make the stay here easier.
(5.) We are very proud of this lake and the natural surroundings we have
maintained here at the cottage please be mindful that unless we all
protect them and the environment there will be nothing to pass on to our
children. Please try not to destroy the lake or the trees.
(6.) If problems develop while you are here we can be reached at
the number provided and you can leave a message if we are not available and we will
contact you.
The cottages have a long history. They were built by John and Emma for
their two daughters Dorothea and Ruth before the girls were ever
married. The house and garage directly towards the lake was their home
and during the summers they lived in the garage and rented all three
places out. When Dorothea married and later moved back with her husband
they built their home next door and raised their family there continuing
to rent the three cottages. When Emma died the big house was sold but
the cottages have remained in the family.
Sunset Park, the adjoining association, was originally all owned
by the grandparents of the family and as the property was sold and
cottages were built, refrigeration and electricity were a novelty.
The black shed behind the cottages was the ice house and during the
winter grandpa would cut ice from the lake and bring it in with horse
drawn sled to be stored in the ice house covered with saw dust to be
used during the summer. Some of the neighbors remember as small children
getting ice from the icehouse to make ice cream.
Unfortunately as generations pass so does some of the nostalgic
memories.
You can still see some of the remains of Grandmas rock gardens, lilacs
and lilly of the valley as you walk to the lake.
May your stay at the cottage be a peaceful time and may you return home
more relaxed and at peace. God Bless! The Gallagher
Family
